while i agree with the position that ethanol for fuel is a bad idea…i have a couple of problems with this artical..
1) the statement that the corn used to produce the ethanol that will fill a suv tanke will feed a person for a year.
a) a bushel of corn (54 pounds) will produce 3 gallons of ethanol
b) the average suv tank holds around 30 gallons of 10% ethanol fuel…or about 3 gallons of ethanol
c) most survival manuals recommend at least 150 pounds of corn per person for a years supply
so with very little research, this statement can be pretty much discounted as pure B.S….what else in the artical is B.S.
second
if moving ethanol by truck and rail is dangerouse and ineffeciant…why is the author in favor of hauling canadian tar sands oil to U.S. refineries by truck and (warren buffet owned) rail instead of supporting the keystone oil pipeline???
