The Yanukovich government is finally cracking down on the protesters/occupiers/saboteurs. If these protesters actually were peaceful, liberty-loving Ukrainian patriots who want to keep Ukraine independent and free of outside influences, they might have had a point, but that’s not who they are. Not at all.
The key pretext for the current riots was the decision of the Yanukovich government not to pursue further involvement with the EU. The rioters demand to drag Ukraine into the EU, without any consensus in Ukraine to that effect, and without any guarantees on the part of the EU. Involvement with the EU is the antithesis of national freedom and independence.
These protests have been covertly funded via US-backed NGOs and supported by the EU. The demonstrations are led and staffed by a disreputable and violent assortment of leftists with ties to George Soros (as with the previous “color revolutions”), rabidly anti-Semitic fascists and neo-Nazis, the Occupy movement, professional anarchists, and other rabble-for-hire.
George Soros has a personal grudge here: he ousted Yanukovich in a previous “color revolution” (namely, the “Orange Revolution”). No doubt he is furious that Yanukovich was voted legitimately into office once again.
The EU is an evil organization that would strangle freedom in Ukraine and allow an influx of Muslim immigration, just as it has in the rest of Europe. Ukraine doesn’t need to be swept up into the EUSSR. (Nor does Serbia, for that matter.) By the time these Slavic countries get admitted into the EU (if ever), there will be no money left for economic development, debt relief, or anything else.
Better that Ukraine gets substantial economic assistance from Russia now, rather than the false promise of help from the EU later -with a lot more strings attached courtesy of the huge, costly, tyrannical, and corrupt EU bureaucracy. Ukraine should look to the BRICS countries as trading partners and allies, and forget about climbing onto the sinking ship of western Europe.

Soros is the typical Bond villain with a God complex!
And now he is betting on a collapse of the US dollar (see Zero Hedge and other sites).
The EU certainly wants to get its hands on Ukraine to suck its blood (its resources, low paid workers, etc). The Ukraine should be looking East. World power is shifting from the West to the East. The West is sinking into a black hole of debt leveraged to create more debt. The future is East.
Thanks for the info. With the Olympics I unfortunately wasn’t paying attention.
Excellent points. I linked to the post adding a few remarks of my own:

The Orange Revolution was also Soros funded
