Excellent review of an important restoration of historiography before the revisionism about “Andalus” we continue to have to endure.

The reviewer mentions that the book is built on the thesis of Belgian historian Pirenne and his book “Mohammed and Charlemagne”.

The reveiwer writes:

“Islamic piracy and predation brought sea trade in the Mediterranean to a virtual standstill. This was not only devastating to the economies of Europe, but it also halted the export of papyrus from Egypt to the rest of the region. The use of papyrus for written material was the major engine of widespread literacy in the Mediterranean. …

Thanks to Islam, the Mediterranean basin was transformed from a peaceful, literate, civilized culture into a violent, illiterate, and backward one — all in the space of a generation or so.”

This reminds me of a powerful image Pirenne himself used to describe this assault on the Mediterranean by Muslims. Essentially, the Muslim invasions took what had been for millennia a conduit — economically and culturally — of different cultures, and in the span of less than a century transformed it into a hostile wall.

This became one major reason for Marco Polo’s adventures, for circumnavigation around Africa to literally circumvent the Muslim hostage-taking of the Mediterranean, and later for Columbus’ discovery of America.

Indeed, almost every major event and proess of Western history has some kind of crucial Islamic factor to it — always a negative factor, to be sure. Some day, Western historians will restore the story of the West in the light of its perennial enemy; probably at about the same time we finally deal with it rationally.

i am so sorry i had not researched the truth behind nato and other nations especially here in canada, who too without proper researched would have realized islam and it’s awful bent to once again try to take over civilization (Christanity) !
but we must all go to Scripture to find our strength- for our Lord and Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ said in John 16:33 “These things l have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. in the world ye shall have tribulation: but of good cheer; l have overcome the world. !!!
We must remember He desires Holiness to live here and Forgiveness to those who have hurt us.

It is hard to see through all the government propaganda. Seems like we get these nice stories in grade school about this nice “religion” called “Islam.” It seems so benign. Almost like Judaism or Christianity.

However, the fact is Mohammad certainly fills the role of the False Prophet and sure seems to qualify as an Anti-Christ. Allah seems to be the old pagan Moon God; just look at the top of any Mosque. As the Scripture says those old pagan gods are nothing more than demons.

Know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Too bad it took so many of us–me included–so long to learn about Islam!

NATO lied! They spoke of “Serbs” and “Albanians.” It was Muslim terrorists vs. Orthodox Christians. Got any counties in NATO with many Orthodox Christians? No!
