The Australian: Terror threat unchanged despite Opera House image in jihadist magazine

An image of the Sydney Opera House in a jihadist magazine does not change Australia’s terrorist threat level, federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland says. The iconic building features on the front of Inspire Magazine, an online publication that includes instructions on how to make bombs.

The magazine is published by associates of al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which has been described as one of the most active sections of the terror network.

Despite this, Mr McClelland says the national terrorism alert level remains unchanged at medium.

“I have been advised this publication does not represent any change to the extent of the terrorist threat within Australia,” Mr McClelland said today.

“And I am advised it has not been accompanied by any specific threat in Australia or to Australian citizens.”

The terrorism alert level, which has been in place since 2001, still means a terrorist attack could occur and Mr McClelland said the photograph was a reminder of the terrorist threat Australia faced.

“This publication does serve as a reminder of the need for constant vigilance in countering terrorist threats,” he said.

“It’s clear the material is intended to provoke a strong emotive reaction.”

Given the magazine’s “intent to incite violence”, Mr McClelland said the government was taking steps to reduce its exposure, including writing to the Australian Communications and Media Authority to remove links to the magazine.

“ASIO has also made a request to relevant Australian providers to restrict access to sites which link to this material.”

Rest here.

Interesting that they have the Sydney Opera House as a possible target. It is undoubtedly the most iconic Australian building other than the Sydney Harbour Bridge. (both pictured above).

It is also a center for all the arts – plays, concerts, ballet, art exhibitions and such, not just opera.

Many centuries ago Islam was quite the center of culture, especially in Spain.

Think of their architecture, calligraphy and literature for example.

Now most of these things are ‘unIslamic’.

Remember Khomenei said there is no fun in Islam, or words to that effect, so I am assuming he would have included music and dance in that because he certainly didn’t have sex in mind.

That’s still ok. Pedophilia and sex slaves are ok too.

Bin Laden destroyed the WTC on 9/11 – the center of US capitalism and properity, so going after the arts is possibly the next step.

Destruction of the West in stages…..

Muslim threatens to kill all Christians and Jews, and bomb Sydney – on Facebook

Wonder where he got the idea to bomb Sydney? At least one Muslim terrorist already is using Inspire Magazine as a how-to manual:

It Worked Sammy! AQAP’s Inspire Magazine Inspires Would be Fort Hood Terrorist (Bumped)

I have updated both this comment, and the article itself, to reflect recent events.

The killings in Norway serve as a warning of what happens when governments fail to take jihadi threats seriously enough.

In the case of Norway, the failure to take jihadi threats seriously led to poor security and lawlessness. As a result, one deranged individual ran amok. Not all terrorists are Muslims, but the fact remains that the vast majority of them are.

Very few people realized that al Qaeda would once again attack the WTC, after the failure of the bomb attack in the parking area to destroy the complex many years earlier. The government of Australia should follow up on this not-so-veiled threat to the Sydney Opera House.
