David Menzies reports, one of the big budget films debuting down at the multiplex for summer movie blockbuster season is “Independence Day: Resurgence”, the sequel to the original released 20 years ago. The movie is typical of a new film genre known as “disaster porn” with a formula that includes invaders, cyborgs or Mother Nature destroying cities and iconic architecture the world over but David notes, landmarks from the Middle East that are related to a certain “religion of peace”, are spared.
