At some point, it became impossible to cut and paste text directly from the description field in the “About” tab of a YouTube video.

From Google employee ytKeane on June 18, 2014:

This is not an intended change. We’re working to fix this issue now. Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Update:

As of 9 AM June 24, 2014, the problem appears to have been fixed.

However, keep these techniques in mind – they may be useful on other websites.

In a nutshell:

  • In Chrome, go into the Print function via your browser menu, which drops down from the upper right corner of the browser window. You can select the text and copy the description from the print preview page.
  • In Mozilla, select View/Page Style/No Style. Scroll down and highlight the description. You can revert to Page Style and your text will still be highlighted.

@1389 Thanks for putting this up!
It’s awful when they ‘improve’ sites and things go very wrong!

I read the comments on the forum – a lot of very angry people out there.

I was starting to think that You Tube was about to charge for subscriptions! Think how much they could make with even $1 a year!

Some on the forum are saying it has been fixed but not from where I am sitting.
This is fabulous! In fact it is possibly a better way to get the text than before.
