Myanmar: Virtual revolution via Internet
Credit for this goes not to international media but to the efforts of hundreds of Myanmar’s citizens using the Internet and mobile phones to send first hand accounts, photographs and video footage to the rest of the world…this time technology is playing a crucial role in helping subvert the Myanmar government’s attempts to control the media meaning that the eyes of the world are on Myanmar and its oppressive regime like never before.
US Blasts Myanmar for Silencing Internet
The White House criticized Myanmar on Friday for cutting off Internet access and called on “all civilized nations” to pressure the military-run government to end its violent crackdown on protesters.
“They don’t want the world to see what is going on there,” White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said….(more)
Myanmar’s main Internet link not working: official
…Myanmar’s Internet service is tightly controlled and only sporadically available even in the best of times, but the military has tightened its controls amid anti-government protests.
In Bangkok, an official at a Thai telecom that provides satellite services to Myanmar also said some Internet service inside the country had been cut….
There have been massive support from Myanmar bloggers for the current protest activities, and the whole Myanmar blogosphere is overwhelmed with news and photos. Because of that, Myanmar Junta got chickened out and banned the political blogs, almost immediately followed by banning the whole blogger domain hence all other Myanmar blogs. A few bloggers tried to bypass proxy and blog using email-to-blog techniques….
Junta tries to shut down internet and phone links
The Burmese junta was last night desperately trying to shut down internet and telephone links to the outside world after a stream of blogs and mobile phone videos began capturing the dramatic events on the streets.
In the past 24 hours observers monitoring the flow of information have noticed a marked downturn, with the reported closure of cybercafes and the disconnection of mobile telephones.
Yes, but Myanmar is a Socialist nation, we’re all thinking…that could happen waaaay over there, but not here, in the west, where we have freedom of speech. You think? The methods may be different, but the results are the same. Check out these ongoing updates about internet censorship:

September 28th, 2007 — enemy propaganda, Blogburst: stop the Murdoch Flight 93 memorial, Atlas Shrugs, Islam, Jenn Sierra (author), blogging
From Pam, at Atlas Shrugs:
Flight 93 has once again been hijacked by the terrorists.
After deliberating on this for a while, I’ve decided to start a blogburst regarding the Flight 93 Memorial in order to keep the calculations that verified its orientation to Mecca from going down the memory hole.
In addition, I think bringing heightened awareness to the mosque features of the memorial and other facts are important because they’re moving to start construction of this monstrosity at the crash site.
If you want to join the blogroll/blogburst for the Crescent of Betrayal blogburst, email caoilfhionn1 at gmail dot com, with your blog’s url address. The blogburst will be sent out once a week to the participants, the plan is- we will all be posting simultaneously on this issue on Wednesdays.
Of course, I will fully expect that you will post on this if you join the blogburst. I’ll keep an email list, and if you don’t post on it, your url will come off the blogroll, and your email address will come off the list.
When was the last time you wanted to get back at the terrorists for 9/11? THIS IS YOUR CHANCE.
Let’s roll.

September 21st, 2007 — Iran, leftist-jihadist convergence, treason, Jenn Sierra (author)
US Constitution Article 3, Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court. The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.
According to West’s Encyclopedia of American Law:
Treason is punishable by death. If a death sentence is not imposed, defendants face a minimum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine (18 U.S.C.A. § 2381). A person who is convicted of treason may not hold federal office at any time thereafter.
Aiding an enemy takes various forms. One might sell secret information to the enemy, as Benedict Arnold did, attack a federal arsenal, like John Brown, harboring an enemy like Hans Max Haupt, or promoting the enemy’s propganda, like Adam Gadahn.
Now, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (aka “I’m-a-nut-job”), the “president” of Iran, wants to take advantage of his visit to the United Nations, currently housed in New York City, to lay a wreath at ground zero, and accept an invitation by Columbia University to speak there and answer questions. Law enforcement, private citizens and political candidates from the right and left spoke out vehemently against the Ground Zero visit, and that, apparently, is not going to happen. (For more info, see Thug-In-Chief still planning to speak at Columbia, says he’ll steer clear of Ground Zero by Robert Spencer, of Jihad Watch.)
Under no circumstances should the NYPD or any other American authority assist President Ahmadinejad in visiting Ground Zero. This is a man who has made threats against America and Israel, is harboring bin Laden’s son and other al-Qaeda leaders, is shipping arms to Iraqi insurgents and is pursuing the development of nuclear weapons. Assisting Ahmadinejad in touring Ground Zero - hallowed ground for all Americans - is outrageous.
It is unacceptable for Iranian President Ahmadinejad, who refuses to renounce and end his own country’s support of terrorism, to visit the site of the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil in our nation’s history.
But Lee Bollinger, the president of Columbia University, has insisted that the visit and scheduled speech is in line with:
Columbia’s long-standing tradition of serving as a major forum for robust debate, especially on global issues.
FHK’s TXPoet gave us an overview of just exactly how dangerous I’m-a-Nut-Job’s regime really is here and here.
The public pressure is increasing on Columbia University may yet officially withdraw the invitation, but WHY would this enemy of the U.S. be welcome, as New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn put it, “…be given center stage at one of New York’s most prestigious centers of high education”? This is, as FHK’s Orlando, reminded us yesterday, however, the same university, that “allowed its students to verbally assault Jim Gillcrest of the Minuteman Project.”
I agree with Orlando, who wrote:
Shame on Columbia University. You hide behind free speech and scholarship but never stand up for basic human rights and principles.
I wonder if Columbia University will be as open to the free speech rights of its students as it is to America’s enemies, during the National Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week that will take place on its campus, and at least 151 other campuses throughout the nation during October?
We’ll see. Meanwhile, Bollinger and his fellow “citizen[s] of the world,” enjoy basking in the presence of a man who wants to blow them up along with the rest of us. A man who said on MEMRI TV (Iran Ch.1, Esfahan TV (Iran) - 5/24/2007 - 00:06:42, linked here because the original record has been removed):
America Is Like a Battery Running Out. They Are Done For…With the grace of God, we have almost reached the end of the path where we can take complete advantage of all nuclear capabilities. We are very near the summit. The resistance of the enemies grows weaker every day.
UPDATE: Apparently this is Standard M.O. at Columbia. AllahPundit has more at HotAir.
